Tax estimates only — Financiar does not file or remit taxes on your behalf

Payslips generated by Financiar include estimated statutory deduction breakdowns (PAYE, NHIS, pension contribution references) for your records. These are estimates for reference only. Financiar does not calculate definitive tax liabilities, submit PAYE returns, file pension remittances, or interact with FIRS, HMRC, IRS, or any other tax authority on your behalf. Consult a licensed accountant or payroll bureau for statutory compliance in your jurisdiction.

Core capabilities

Reliable payroll, every payday

Payroll failures are costly and reputationally damaging. Financiar is built so the payout either goes out exactly once or fails cleanly — never twice, never without approval.

Recurring & scheduled payroll runs

Set a monthly, bi-weekly, or custom schedule. Financiar queues the next run automatically and notifies the designated checker when a batch is ready for approval — no manual calendar reminders, no missed paydays. Each run is a distinct atomic unit: either every employee in the batch is paid, or the run is held for correction.

Local-currency payouts

Payroll runs in your account's local currency — NGN, GHS, USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, and more. No cross-currency conversion happens inside Financiar. Hold your local currency and pay your team in it.

Idempotent processing

Every run carries a unique key. Submit the same batch twice after a network retry or browser refresh and Financiar detects the duplicate — one run, one payment per employee. No double-pays.

Maker-checker approval

The maker who creates the batch cannot approve it. The checker sees total amount, recipient list, and individual salaries before sign-off. Enforced server-side — not just a UI convention.

Audit trail & export

Every run logs who created it, who approved it, when each payout was submitted, and the outcome. Exportable for your accountant, auditor, or board — one file, not multiple bank statements.

Payslips by email

Each completed run generates a downloadable payslip per employee — gross pay, estimated deductions (for reference), and net amount — emailed directly. Tax estimates only; not a statutory filing document.

Running a payroll

From setup to payday in three steps

1

Add your team

Enter employee names, bank details, and salary amounts. Set a recurring schedule — monthly, bi-weekly, or custom.

2

Checker approves the batch

The designated checker reviews the full batch — total, recipients, individual amounts — and approves or requests changes. No maker can approve their own run.

3

Payouts land, payslips go out

Financiar submits payouts via Paystack or Stripe. Each employee receives their salary exactly once. Payslips are emailed automatically.

Built-in controls

Payroll controls built for finance teams

Financiar enforces the controls your auditors expect — not as optional settings, but as the default state of every payroll run.

  • AES-256 field-level encryption

Employee bank account numbers are encrypted at rest — not plaintext in any database.

  • Mandatory KYC on every business account

No payroll run processes until business identity verification is complete — NDPR, GDPR, and AML aligned.

  • Two-person control, server-enforced

The same API that processes payouts validates that maker and checker are different users. Not just a UI gate.

  • Idempotency at the transaction layer

Duplicate run IDs are rejected before hitting the payment rail. Infrastructure retries cannot cause over-payment.

Payroll questions

Does Financiar file payroll taxes on my behalf?

No. Financiar generates payslips with estimated statutory deduction breakdowns for your reference, but does not file PAYE returns, submit pension remittances, or interact with FIRS, HMRC, IRS, or any other tax authority. You remain responsible for statutory compliance — consult your accountant or a licensed payroll bureau.

What does idempotent payroll processing mean in practice?

Every payroll run is assigned a unique key when it is created. If you accidentally click "Submit" twice, or if a network error causes an automatic retry, Financiar detects that the run was already processed and does not pay the batch a second time. Each employee receives their salary exactly once per payroll run.

Which currencies can I run payroll in?

Payroll payouts are in your Financiar account's local currency. Nigerian businesses pay in NGN, UK businesses in GBP, US businesses in USD, Ghanaian businesses in GHS, and so on. Financiar does not perform currency conversion — there is no multi-currency payroll across corridors within a single run.

How does maker-checker work for payroll?

The team member who creates the payroll batch (the maker) is blocked from approving and releasing it. The checker is a separate authorised user who reviews the entire batch — total amount, recipient list, and individual salaries — before it is submitted to the payment rail. This two-person control is enforced at the server layer, not just in the interface.

What payment rails does Financiar use for payroll?

Financiar routes payroll payouts through Paystack for businesses in Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, and South Africa, and through Stripe for businesses in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the 13 EU/EEA countries we currently support. The payout fee depends on the rail and destination — you see the exact amount before confirming any run.
