How do virtual USD cards work for businesses?

A virtual USD card is a card number — with expiry and CVV — that exists only digitally and draws from a US-dollar balance. There is no plastic; you create it in seconds, use it for online subscriptions, ad spend, SaaS tools, and supplier checkouts billed in dollars, then freeze or delete it when you are done. For a finance team, the value is control: each card can be scoped to a vendor, a budget, or an employee, with its own limit, so a leaked or misused number affects only that card rather than the whole account. Financiar issues virtual USD cards (alongside EUR and GBP) to businesses across Africa, North America, the UK, and the EU, drawing from the matching currency balance. Because the card spends in dollars from a dollar balance, there is no currency conversion at the point of sale — the merchant charges USD and your USD balance pays it.

Issuance and controls

An admin creates a card, sets a spend limit, and assigns it to a person or purpose. Cards can be single-use for one purchase or recurring for an ongoing subscription. Freezing a card instantly blocks new charges, which is useful the moment a vendor relationship ends or a number is exposed.

Reconciliation

Every charge is tagged to the card and, through the card, to the owner and purpose. That turns the month-end question of 'who spent this and why' into a lookup rather than an investigation, and it keeps the books aligned with the dollar balance the card drew from.
